I’M MOVING! I’m originally a New England girl but I had always wondered if I was better suited for West Coast living – and in 2016, I didn’t have to wonder anymore. I made the plunge to move to Los Angeles with my then boyfriend/now husband. I always joke that I got a two for one deal; I fell in love with Dave and with California and all of its wild beauty.

So many of my favorite memories have happened here. Dave and I moved in together in LA, we road-tripped all over Cali, I got engaged in Lake Tahoe, started my content creator career, I gained a second family, and made some amazing friends along the way.

Now it’s time for my next chapter! Dave first floated the idea of moving to Kentucky last spring for a potential job opportunity. At first, the idea of leaving California filled me with an overwhelming sense of dread and sadness. But after months of research, it became clearer that this move could be so aligned with where we’re at during this stage of our lives. The quality of life and cost of living pros easily outweigh those of staying in CA for us. Owning acreage and farm animals was finally starting to feel like a possibility. I was also swayed by the Kentucky landscapes and natural beauty. I had no idea it was chock full of waterfalls and countless places to explore + hike. Nature has always been a driving source of motivation for me – no surprise there.

It’s now 10 months after we first spoke about the possibility of moving – and I’m currently writing this blog post while we drive through Wyoming en route to Lexington, KY [with our jam-packed Camry and kitty].

I’m super grateful that we decided to use Roadway Moving to help us with our cross country move. Throughout the entire process, they’ve been so communicative and helpful. We made the decision to go with Roadway about a month before our moving date and were on the phone with them just a few days later coordinating the details. Their helpful staff asked us questions about all of the items we planned on packing in preparation to ensure they would have all that was necessary to facilitate a worry-free moving day. I felt like I could take a long exhale knowing that they were handling the logistics. 

A couple of weeks leading up to the big day, we connected with our moving coordinator, Shawnise. She was an absolute gem and alleviated so much of our stress surrounding the move. She answered any questions that came up, confirmed our moving location logistics, and helped with any last minute changes.

When the big day rolled around, I couldn’t help but feel emotional and nostalgic as I looked around at all of the boxes. Little pieces of my life stored away to start somewhere new. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bit nervous about what the future holds but mostly, I’m just so excited for this new adventure.

When the Roadway Moving team of 3 arrived, they got to work quickly and packed up our 2 BR apartment in a mere few hours. I was so impressed by how they handled everything with so much care. We have a custom-made Kumiko bench that was a wedding gift — and they made sure to secure it well by triple wrapping it and protecting the corners.

They also triple wrapped all of our furniture pieces and delicately handled the packing of our more fragile possessions like our paintings, artisan lamps, and some of my framed travel photography pieces. They even created a special wardrobe box for some of my favorite apparel. I have moved A LOT during my life – and I can undoubtedly say that this was the best moving experience I’ve ever had. I feel such peace of mind knowing that they took such thoughtful care of everything — and a huge sense of relief knowing that all we need to do is drive to Kentucky without worrying about the logistics.
