DECEMBER WELLNESS SPOTLIGHT ON NATUREWISE SUPPLEMENTS
This post was written in partnership with NatureWise. As always, all opinions and expressed thoughts are my own. I am not a doctor, certified nutritionist, or a medical professional – these expressed opinions are my own personal experience and findings with taking supplements.
Since I decided to lead a healthier lifestyle a few years back, I’ve noticed a huge improvement in my overall wellbeing. Once I shifted my focus on fueling my body with healthy foods and supplements, I soon realized that what we choose to put into our bodies also impacts our minds. Our brain functions best when we fuel it correctly – and consuming vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants not only nourishes our brain but it also protects it from oxidative stress according to Harvard Health Publishing.
A diet that is full of refined sugars and nutrient-deficient foods can promote inflammation and impair brain function. If I’m being entirely transparent, I wasn’t in a particularly happy place in my life when I was eating terribly and not taking supplements. My anxiety had hijacked my happiness and I can now correlate that (at least partially) to not taking care of myself from within. We’ve all heard that there is a mind and body connection before — well for me, that couldn’t be more true.
Taking control over my health and overall well-being unlocked so many doors that I didn’t even necessarily know existed – and finding high-quality supplements like NatureWise has been the ultimate game-changer for me. The four supplements that I am going to be highlighting in this post are their Curcumin, Herbal Detox & Cleanse, Forskolin Boost, and Ashwagandha.
Curcumin: Curcumin is a bright yellow component that is the principal curcuminoid of turmeric. It is also a member of the ginger family and is a common ingredient used in Ayurvedic practices. Curcumin alone cannot be absorbed properly which is why I really love the NatureWise formula. It includes Bioperine, a patented black pepper extract proven to dramatically increase bioavailability, along with ginger for better digestion and absorption. Curcumin is believed to reduce inflammation and pain, support heart & brain health, and reduce oxidative stress. Many of you already know that I have struggled with arthritic pain for over 16 years and I wholeheartedly believe that curcumin has been a chief factor in reducing my inflammation and improving my overall joint health. I love to take two of the Curcumin supplements daily (and sometimes three if I’m feeling considerably achy).
Ashwagandha for Brain Health: Ashwagandha has earned itself as a buzzword in the wellness industry and rightfully so. It is also commonly referred to as Indian ginseng or winter cherry and it’s a plant in the Solanaceae or nightshade family. Ashwagandha has a large variety of benefits but since we’re specifically discussing the NatureWise brain health blend, I’d like to point out that Naturewise highlights that it’s scientifically proven to enhance memory, attention, and cognitive function in gold-standard clinical studies. This superfood blend includes other natural nootropics like Bacopa, Gotu Kola, Vinpocetine, and Huperzine A. This combination boosts brain function and supports long-term brain health. This blend is also geared toward improved performance under stress. Since I’ve incorporated this blend into my daily regimen, I’ve noticed that I have a lot more clarity throughout the day and I’ve also noticed a reduction in my stress-induced anxiety. I like to take two of these a day.
Herbal Detox & Cleanse: This is a blend of high-quality herbs and fiber that helps clear the gastrointestinal tract of bacteria, mucus, and other toxic build-ups. During my nutrition journey, I’ve been intentional in seeking out supplements that improve my overall gut health. According to Harvard Health Publishing, “Since about 95% of your serotonin is produced in your gastrointestinal tract, and your gastrointestinal tract is lined with a hundred million nerve cells, or neurons, it makes sense that the inner workings of your digestive system don’t just help you digest food, but also guide your emotions.” Many refer to the gut as our “second brain” — and a lot of evidence suggests that healthy gut bacteria and an improved digestion can also improve your mood. I like to take one of these in the morning with my breakfast.
Forskolin Boost: Forskolin is a natural substance extracted from the root of the Indian coleus plant. This supplement boosts thyroid function, insulin production, and digestive enzymes. It is a herbal extract that gives you fast-acting clean energy, increases mental clarity, and promotes antioxidant action. I like to take one of these a day (preferably in the morning so I have mental clarity throughout the day).
